Abstract
Re-examining the expressive capacities of the Qur’an in the face of hermeneutical and interpretive challenges is an undeniable necessity. Among these capacities, Balāghat al-Ishārah (indicative eloquence) stands out as one of the subtlest forms of brevity, enabling exploration of implicit meanings and uncovering hidden layers within the discourse of revelation, an area that has rarely been studied in a comprehensive and systematic manner. The central question of this study is: How does indicative eloquence in the Qur’an, through its concise style, contribute to the transmission of implicit signification and the deepening of semantic layers in the discourse of revelation? This research aims to classify, analyze, and explain the functions of Ishārah-based brevity in Qur’anic verses. Using a descriptive-analytical method and drawing on linguistic and rhetorical approaches, the study investigates selected Qur’anic examples. The findings reveal that Balāghat al-Ishārah is not merely a stylistic device of conciseness, but a mechanism for conveying implicit meanings, enriching semantic depth, creating intertextual links between verses, and stimulating reflective engagement in the audience. Ultimately, this rhetorical strategy unveils new dimensions of the Qur’an’s eloquence and its pedagogical function.
